Electropolishing & Deburring Service for MP35N Alloy
As a tough, corrosion-resistant and resilient alloy, MP35N is well-suited for use in manufacturing a wide variety of parts, like springs, fasteners, electrical components and more. Despite the alloy’s natural strength, imperfections left by manufacturing can cause premature part failure. MP35N electropolishing services eliminate those imperfections, allowing parts made from this material to function more effectively.
The MP35N Electropolishing Process
Unlike other metal finishing services, electropolishing is a reverse plating process that actively removes surface material from metal parts—including MP35N. Electropolishing removes a controlled, uniform amount of surface metal in an electrochemical bath, stripping away surface imperfections and leaving behind a smooth, clean surface.
Benefits of Electropolishing MP35N
Because of its strength under pressure and extreme resilience, MP35N is frequently used for parts that flex, bend and cycle, like springs. In parts like these, even microscopic surface imperfections like cracks and notches can ultimately compromise longevity. With consistent part use, these imperfections can worsen over time, resulting in premature failure.
Electropolishing MP35N typically removes .0005” to .001” total material from the part, and in the process, removes the cracks and notches that could expand and cause premature part failure. Along with removing these structural imperfections, electropolishing removes any contaminants embedded in the part’s surface material, eliminating potential initiation sites for corrosion. Electropolishing is also more precise and predictable than many other metal finishing services, allowing us to remove a highly-controlled, uniform amount of surface material.
